ENOCHIAN MEDITATIONS / Business decision wisdom

Awaiting ENOCH review

Before adopting a business platform, ask whether your team can leave with usable work, not merely a downloaded file.

NIST SP 800-146, section 5.4.3 (May 2012), identifies a portability problem: SaaS export and import formats may be incompatible, while custom workflows, settings and extensions may be specific to a provider. This is longstanding guidance, not a finding about any vendor you are considering.

Practical interpretation: include an exit rehearsal in your pilot. A successful export alone does not establish that another tool can reconstruct the relationships your business needs.

Today's action

Create ten fictional records with an attachment, a linked record and a status history. Ask the provider to export that sample, then have your team reconstruct it in a separate test environment. Record what survived, what was missing, staff time and any quoted export charges. Keep real customer and employee data out of the exercise.

Put the result in your decision memo: “We recovered [items]; we could not recover [items]; restoring the missing pieces would require [work].” If reconstruction was not tested, write “not tested.”

Use the free business decision toolkit to document the tradeoff. You may still choose the platform; now you can explain the dependency you are accepting.

Source and reading record

  • NIST SP 800-146, Cloud Computing Synopsis and Recommendations, final May 2012. Read: publication metadata, abstract and publication history; PDF title/date, contents and section 5.4.3, "Lack of Portability between SaaS Clouds," printed page 5-6 (PDF page 39). The full publication was not read. The ten-record rehearsal is ENOCH ONE's editorial interpretation, not a NIST-prescribed test or an executed experiment.
  • Free Business Decision Toolkit, displayed v1.0, October 23, 2026; current Shopify copy read October 25, 2026. Read: comparison questions, scorecard, lifecycle costs, pilot and decision-memo descriptions, preview and source limitations.
  • Research & Provenance, framework 1.1 and addendum 1.2 with later visible additions; current Shopify copy read October 25, 2026. Read: evidence categories, AI responsibility, retrospective method, source register and research-context limitations. Linked underlying works were not read for this entry.
